Bold and vibrant, The Longing, have vowed to entertain us throughout these strange pandemic times, as they hand-pick their favourite songs of all time, and sprinkle them with their unique signature sound. For Spring, we can expect a compelling injection of the gorgeously eerie grandiose gothic, as The Longing release the next instalment to their ‘cover series’, with a remake of the divinely touching ‘Torture’ (released 21st May); originally released by LA studio band, Les Friction in 2012.

The incomparable magic of The Longing ignites everything it touches with a spark of the darkly sinister, yet beautiful gothic; ‘Torture’ is yet another pristine example of The Longing’s work. Delicately handled, like a china doll cradled in velvet gloves, The Longing lure us into a fragile musical landscape of gentle piano chords that temp and tease us to enter. Coupled with founding member, Laura Bradley’s, crystalline-sweet vocals, which beautifully trickle and tickle their way around the chords – and you’re hooked; too late to even want to escape from the drama that’s about to unfold in this story-tale of a track. It’s nothing short of a glorious epic musical journey of a 4 minute melody. Simply spectacular.

“Lyrically, the song struck a powerful nerve in me,” comments Laura Bradley. “The horror and helplessness of the co-dependent nature of this particular relationship and knowing that at some point, we’ve all been there or known someone who has. Factor in a year of lockdown and what it’s done to abuse and violence in households globally and I knew that The Longing absolutely had to cover this staggeringly beautiful song.”

Founded by LA based musician/singer/composer, Laura Bradley, The Longing are a 4-piece band who transcend over-simplistic genre categorisation, as they hover gloriously over the void between raw symphonic prog and rock. Bradley has the ability to harness the power of her trademark angelic vocals, unleashing her voice with the spectral force of an emotional whiplash – that’s what instantly brings audiences to a standstill. Fuse this with Bradley’s impeccable poetic lyrics and compositional style, which injects a jagged, rhythm-driven musical perspective, and you begin to experience the energy igniting the ever-snowballing fanbase of The Longing.

The band consists of John Huldt: guitars, production and arrangement, Michael Wallace: bass, vocals, engineer and production, drummer, Tom Plumb and of course, Laura Bradley: keys, vocals, princess – all formally trained, seasoned session and touring musicians with numerous high-profile production and engineering credits.

The single, ‘Torture is released Friday  21st May 2021 on Filthy Princess Records with a tempting album of poignant covers planned for later 2021.
